78 Naba-The News

Question 1

عَمَّ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ

Answer 1

About what are they asking one another?

Question 2

عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ

Answer 2

About the great news -

Question 3

ٱلَّذِى هُمۡ فِيهِ مُخۡتَلِفُونَ

Answer 3

That over which they are in disagreement.

Question 4

كَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُونَ

Answer 4

No! They are going to know.

Question 5

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعۡلَمُونَ

Answer 5

Then, no! They are going to know.

Question 6

أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَلِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِهَٰدًا

Answer 6

Have We not made the earth a resting place?

Question 7

وَٱلۡجِبَالَ أَوۡتَادًا

Answer 7

And the mountains as stakes?

Question 8

وَخَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجًا

Answer 8

And We created you in pairs

Question 9

وَجَعَلۡنَا نَوۡمَكُمۡ سُبَاتًا

Answer 9

And made your sleep [a means for] rest

Question 10

وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلَّيۡلَ لِبَاسًا

Answer 10

And made the night as clothing

Question 11

وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا

Answer 11

And made the day for livelihood

Question 12

وَبَنَيۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمۡ سَبۡعًا شِدَادًا

Answer 12

And constructed above you seven strong [heavens]

Question 13

وَجَعَلۡنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا

Answer 13

And made [therein] a burning lamp

Question 14

وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمُعۡصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا

Answer 14

And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water

Question 15

لِّنُخۡرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا

Answer 15

That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation

Question 16

وَجَنَّٰتٍ أَلۡفَافًا

Answer 16

And gardens of entwined growth.

Question 17

إِنَّ يَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ كَانَ مِيقَٰتًا

Answer 17

Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time -

Question 18

يَوۡمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأۡتُونَ أَفۡوَاجًا

Answer 18

The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes

Question 19

وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتۡ أَبۡوَٰبًا

Answer 19

And the heaven is opened and will become gateways

Question 20

وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ فَكَانَتۡ سَرَابًا

Answer 20

And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage.

Question 21

إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتۡ مِرۡصَادًا

Answer 21

Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait

Question 22

لِّلطَّٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًا

Answer 22

For the transgressors, a place of return,

Question 23

لَّٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحۡقَابًا

Answer 23

In which they will remain for ages [unending].

Question 24

لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرۡدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا

Answer 24

They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink

Question 25

إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا

Answer 25

Except scalding water and [foul] purulence -

Question 26

جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا

Answer 26

An appropriate recompense.

Question 27

إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ لَا يَرۡجُونَ حِسَابًا

Answer 27

Indeed, they were not expecting an account

Question 28

وَ كَذَّبُواْ بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا

Answer 28

And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial.

Question 29

وَ كُلَّ شَىۡءٍ أَحۡصَيۡنَٰهُ كِتَٰبًا

Answer 29

But all things We have enumerated in writing.

Question 30

فَذُوقُواْ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمۡ إِلَّا عَذَابًا

Answer 30

“So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment.”

Question 31

إِنَّ لِلۡمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا

Answer 31

Indeed, for the righteous is attainment -

Question 32

حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعۡنَٰبًا

Answer 32

Gardens and grapevines

Question 33

وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتۡرَابًا

Answer 33

And full-breasted [companions] of equal age

Question 34

وَكَأۡسًا دِهَاقًا

Answer 34

And a full cup.

Question 35

لَّا يَسۡمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغۡوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًا

Answer 35

No ill speech will they hear therein or any falsehood -

Question 36

جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا

Answer 36

[As] reward from your Lord, [a generous] gift [made due by] account,

Question 37

رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِۖ لَا يَمۡلِكُونَ مِنۡهُ خِطَابًا

Answer 37

[From] the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Most Merciful. They possess not from Him [authority for] speech.

Question 38

يَوۡمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّاۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنۡ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا

Answer 38

The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct.

Question 39

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡيَوۡمُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا

Answer 39

That is the True Day; so he who wills may take to his Lord a [way of] return.

Question 40

إِنَّآ أَنذَرۡنَٰكُمۡ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوۡمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مَا قَدَّمَتۡ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلۡكَافِرُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا

Answer 40

Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, “Oh, I wish that I were dust!”
