What is attention?
The process of focusing on specific stimuli or aspects of the sensory environment whilst ignoring and therefore excluding others
What are the 4 types of attention?
Sustained, Selective, alternating, divided
What is sustained attention?
The ability to remain focused on one stimuli/activity for a prolonged period of time.
What is selective attention?
The ability to actively “block out” certain stimuli whilst focusing in on others.
What is Alternating attention?
The ability to shift ones attention from several stimuli that require different cognitive abilities
What is divided attention?
The ability to respond to, react to and process more than one external stimuli at once.
