Disease
Disease is a term to describe anything that prevents the body or parts of the body from functioning properly
contagious disease
A disease that can be spread from person to person. R0 value is the amount of people that are infected
Pathogens
Pathogens are organisms that cause disease. e.g bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites.
Bacteria
Microscopic and unicellular. Only a small number of bacteria are pathogens
Antibiotics
commonly used to kill or inhibit the growth of bacteria by targeting their cell walls or metabolic pathways
tetanus
One the bacterium enters the body it multiplies and releases toxins. Toxins can cause muscle spasms, respitory failures and even heart attacks.
Gastroenteritis
Salmonella enteritis releases poisons which can cause fever, vomiting and diarrhea leading to dehydration.
Infections
when a pathogen enters the body and reaches its target cell, when the infection breaks through our defenses we get sick. can occur in a number of different ways depending on the pathogen
