808-201 Ultimate - Part 2 Flashcards
What is the standard speaker size for a laptop?
There is none
How do you upgrade the video card in a laptop?
You can’t! It’s usually built into the motherboard
How do you upgrade the CPU in a laptop?
You can’t! It’s soldered to the system board
What must be included in laptops that use an LCD screen?
An inverter to provide the CCFL backlight AC power.
What is the cause if a display is dim on an LCD laptop display?
The inverter, the CCFL, ot the display itself
What is the difference between a docking station and a port replicator?
A port replicator is usually compatible with a variety of laptops, plugs into a USB port, and is cheaper. A docking station is designed for a single model of laptop, which the laptop slides into.
What is needed when using a port replicator or docking station with a windows XP computer?
Seperate hardware profiles.
What does an imaging drum do?
An imaging drum is a round rotating cylinder covered with a photosensitive surface. Images are written onto the drum by shining a focused light from the laser onto the drum. Used in laser printing.
What does a fuser assembly do?
The fuser assembly generates heat, which melts the plastic particles in the toner and fuses them onto the paper. Used in laser printing.
What does a transfer belt do?
A transfer belt is used on some high-end color laser printers. Colors are applied to the transfer belt and then to the paper. This step is repeated for different colors
What does a transfer roller do?
“The transfer roller charges the paper with a high voltage. As the drum turns and the paper is moved through the printer, the charged paper attracts the toner away from the drum. The result is that the toner is transferred from the drum onto the paper. Used in laser printing.
“
What does a pickup roller do?
Pickup rollers applied to the top of the paper are used to pick up paper from the paper tray and begin feeding it through the printer
What does a separator pad do?
Separator pads spin in the opposite direction from under the paper and push extra paper back. These pads help prevent more than one piece of paper from being sent through the printer at a time.
What does a duplexing assembly do?
Duplexing assemblies are needed for two-sided printing. They are typically mounted on the back of a laser or inkjet paper. After one side is printed, the paper is routed to the duplexing assembly, which turns the paper over and reroutes it through the printer a second time.
What occurs during the processing stage of laser printing?
The image is converted to a raster image by the RIP and stored in the printer’s memory.
What is an RIP?
A raster image processor. Convert printing data to a raster image used by the printer
What occurs during the charging stage of laser printing?
The imaging drum is charged with a high negative voltage (between -500 and -1,000 VDC ) with a primary charge roller. In older laser printers, a corona wire applied the high negative voltage instead of a primary charge roller.
What occurs during the exposing stage of laser printing?
During this stage, the laser writes the raster image onto the drum
What occurs during the developing stage of laser printing?
The toner is applied to the drum during the developing stage
What occurs during the transferring stage of laser printing?
During the transferring stage, toner is transferred from the imaging drum to the paper.
What occurs during the fusing stage of laser printing?
The fusing assembly provides both friction and heat to the paper as it passes through, melting the toner onto the paper.
What happens if you put a transperency page into a laser printer?
It will melt and ruin the printer. You need special transperency paper made for paser printers
What occurs during the cleaning stage of laser printing?
A plastic or hard rubber scraper removes excess or residual toner. The lamp shines over the entire photosensitive surface of the drum, exposing it all and neutralizing the electrical charge.
What does the print head on an inkjet printer do?
This is where the ink comes out. On some printers, these are attached to the ink cartridge and disposable, on others, they are permanent.
What is a printer’s feeder used for?
This holds the paper before feeding it through.
What is a carriage used for?
This is where all the ink jet nozzles are mounted. They move back and forth across the paper at speeds exceeding a meter per second.
What is a printer belt used for?
This is what the printhead assembly is attached to.
What does a thermal printer’s feed assembly look like?
It is usually wound around a spindle in a long roll.
What does the heating element in a printer do?
It heats the paper. It is located in the print head.
What type of paper does a thermal printer use?
Special thermal paper that reacts to heat.
What does the printhead of an impact printer contain?
Pins that strike an ink ribbon to leave dots on the paper
What does the ribbon on an impact printer do?
It is located between the paper and the printheads and is struck to leave an image.
What is another term for impact printer?
dot matrix printer
What is the tractor feed used for?
It feeds papers through a printer using sockets sockets that fit into holes in special paper
