Unessecary movement of materials
What is one way transportation waste can be reduced?
Putting processes next to each other
What is Inventory waste?
Materials that aren’t currently being processed (i.e. raw materials & finished goods)
What is one way inventory waste can be reduced?
Using “just in time” manufacturing (where materials are ordered & arrive when they are needed)
What is Motion waste?
Unessecary movement by people (i.e. looking for tools)
What is one way motion waste can be reduced?
Effective design & management of processes (like putting workstation 1 next to 2, 2 next to 3, etc.)
What is Waiting waste?
Time material spends between processes
What is one way motion waste can be reduced?
Flowing materials directly from process to process
What is Overproduction waste?
Making more products than the customer needs
What is one way overproduction waste can be reduced?
Only making (the quantity of) products when they’re needed
What is Overprocessing waste?
Producing higher quality products than needed
What is one way overprocessing waste can be reduced?
Understanding customer needs and only doing what’s required to meet those needs
What is Defects waste?
Aspects of products that don’t meet the expectations of customers
