8. Nervous receptors Flashcards
1
Q
name the two type of nervous receptors
A
- baroreceptors
- chemo receptors
2
Q
what is the role of baroreceptors
A
to detect changes in blood pressure within your body
3
Q
what happens when barorectprors detect a high BP
A
- impukses are sent to the medulla oblongata
- impulse frequency increases down the parasympathetic NS
- this secretes acetycholine an inhibitory neurotransmitter
- the SA node impulses decrease to the AVN which slow down the heart rate
- prevents high blood pressure
4
Q
what happens when chemoreceptors detect a low BP?
A
- impulses are sent to the medulla oblongata via increased frequency within sympathetic NS
- noradrenaline is released
- this increases impulses from SAN to AVN
- increases heart rate and therefore blood pressure
5
Q
where are these nervous receptors found?
A
carotid arteries
