How is mood different from emotions?
Mood is predominant affective disposition. It is less specific and less influenced by events/experiences. More closely linked to temperament and personality.
Why is it important to assess a clients level of functioning?
It can indicate capacity to adapt to challenges (show resources). Can indicate what is important to target for treatment.
What are the four domains in the PDM that cover an array of psychological processes?
- Cognitive and affective processes
- Identity and relationships
- Defense and coping
- Self-awareness and self-direction
What is the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS)?
14-item self-report scale. Measures emotional states: depression, anxiety, stress.
Severity rating of experiences over the past week. DASS-21 = short version
What is the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K-10)?
10-item self-report measure. Global measure of distress with questions about anxiety and depression sx. Experiences over the past four weeks.
What is the strengths and difficulties questionnaire (SDQ)?
Behavioural screening questionnaire- screen children and adolescent problems. Ask about 25 attributes both positive and negative in 5 scales (emotional, conduct, hyperactivity/inattention, relationships, prosocial behaviour).
What is the Outcome Rating Scale (ORS)?
Four-item visual analogue scale. Brief alternative for outcome questionnaire (assess changes after intervention). Asked about general wellbeing, relationships etc.
What is the Beck Youth Inventories of Emotional and Social Impairment (BYI-2)?
Assesses norm-referenced diagnostic scales in 5 areas (Depression, Anxiety, anger, disruptive behaviour, self concept). For ages 7-18.
What is the Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL)?
Part of the ASEBA. Behavioural and emotional problems and competencies. Three main areas (Involvement in activities, social interaction patterns and school performance).
