8. Gas Chromatogaphy Flashcards
1
Q
What is the difference between using acetonitrile and methanol as solvents for HPLC?
A
?? Solvent strenght
2
Q
What are the 3 types of detectors in GC?
A
- Flame Ionisation Detector (FID)
- Thermal conductivity detector (TCD)
- Electron Capture Detector (ECD)
3
Q
What is isothermal seperation?
A
If a sample contains components with closely similar boiling points, adequate separation with a short analysis time is obtained at one specific oven temperature. This is called an isothermal analysis
4
Q
What is cryo focusing?
A
Cold traps can focus the sample into a narrow band at the beginning of the column by cooling a short section of the column.
Cryo-focusing is used to narrow the width of a peak and improve signal to noise ratio.
