8/30/24 -day 3- Fri-review Flashcards
NSAIDs
a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug
cortisol fights stress
no cortisol = cant fight the stressors
steriods
an anti inflammatory drug used to treat a range of conditions.
A a histamine reaction causes the
bronchioles to constrict/itchiness to the nose
what is asthma
a trigger of allergens
the release of histamines causes
allergic reactions
what does Addison’s disease consists of?
non production of cortisol, tall/thin apperence, increaced morbitity/mortality
where are adrenal glands located?
above the kidneys, one gland for each kidney
adrenal glands increase
the cortisol needed to fight stressors
what does the adrenal medulla produce?
epinephrine (released when body is stressed/afraid in the flight/fight response) and nonepinephrine (regulation of arousal, attention, cognitive function, and stress reactions)
what is the adrenal cortex?
it regulate many bodily processes and support vital organ functions and produces cortisol, aldosterone, androgens, estrogen, testosterone, and more.
what is aldosterone?
regulates sodium production, salavary glands, and controls potassium
what is dopamine?
a hormone and neurotransmitter that helps nerve cells communicate in the brain
comorbidity
the simultaneous presence of two or more diseases or medical conditions in a pt.
morbitity=
having a disease/illness
mortality=
the number of deaths caused by a disease/illness
The three stages of Stress in the GAS(general adaptation system):
Alarm, Resistance, Exhaustion
what is the RAS system?
Renin-angiotensis system= a hormonal pathway that regulates blood volume, electrolyte balance, and vascular disease.
Head injury
is very dangerous bc the brain is not glued to the skull and it will hit the skull causing brusing or bleeding.
GAS = ARE
general adaptation syndrome = Alarm, resistance, exhaustion
