What is celiac disease?
gluten intolerance; very damaging to the small intestine (which is where nutrient absorption occurs)
What does lactose intolerance cause if you consume lactose?
Immediate bowl movement
What is a monospot test?
a blood test that determines if you have contracted the Epstein-Barr virus, the virus that causes infectious mononucleosis.
What is U/A ?
a Urinalysis
What is a UTI ?
Urinary Tract Infection
What is tested in a Urinalysis?
Tests the urine for traces of albumin, protein, glucose, WBC, RBC, UTI’s, keytones, pH levels.
What is a contrast dye used for?
To make organs, vessels, and tissues more visible in imaging tests
What is a biopsy?
is done to check for cancerous cells
What is hypoxia?
it means low oxygen levels in the body. (can cause necrosis; cyanosis.
Hypo=low
Oxia=oxygen
What does the coronary artery circulation do ?
provide oxygen to the heart
What is LOC ?
level of consciousness
What is hypoactive?
being asleep or a decrease in both cognitive and motor functions, leading to passive behavior, demotivation, and withdrawal from the current situation.
What is Cyanosis or being cyanotic?
when the body turns purple or blue; having hypoxia
What is Apnea?
when breathing stops during sleep.
What controls the bodys vital signs?
The brain
How can you check if a sleeping patient is breathing?
chest rising and fall
What is OSA?
Obstructive Sleep Apnea; caused by the upper airway being blocked.
What is Central Sleep Apnea?
CSA; when the brain doesn’t send the body signals to the airway and chest muscles. usually caused by health conditions.
What is fetal hypoxia?
can be caused by umbillical cord complications/ placenta issues, or maternal factors. Is usually seen when babies heart rate drops or is laboured. A low heart rate=complications bc fetal heart rate is 140bpm.
