An amateur who engages in some activity without serious intention and sometimes pretends to have knowledge
If you do many things without serious intention and dedication to a specific specialty you might end up being a dilettante

To free someone from a false belief
In singing lessons you just disabuse new students of the idea that singing louder is singing better

Distinguish, recognize or perceive something
If there is not enough light you will have a hard time discerning the words
Discountenance
Look with disfavor on
Disapprove by discouraging
She discountenanced his drinking habit by disengaging with him
Abashed
Embarrassed and uneasy and self conscious
People feel abashed when they get caught in a lie
Cantankerous
Being difficult, disagreeable and unwilling to cooperate
The cantankerous old lady would not cooperate with her neighbors
Commend
To present as worthy of regard
To applaude
