What is a mixture?
A mixture is 2+ substances put together that aren’t chemically joined, so they are easy to separate.
What is the solute?
The substance dissolving
What is the solvent?
The substance, which solute dissolves in
What is the solution?
The mixture of the solvent and the solute
What does insoluble mean?
Means it can’t be dissolved
What does soluble mean?
It can be dissolved
In the mixture salt + water which is the solute you which is the solvent
Salt is the solute and water is the solvent
Methods to separate mixtures
Evaporation, distillation, filtration and chromatography
How does evaporation separate mixtures?
Turns liquid into vapour, leaving the solids
How does distillation separate mixtures?
It purifies it by heating and cooling
How does filtration separate mixtures?
Let’s smaller particles past through small holes, so big particles are left
