Enlistment Extensions

A

Purpose:

  1. Extends the Amn’s period of obligated service
  2. Same legal effect of the enlistment agreement

Policies:

  1. Maximum limit to extend is 48 months
  2. Granted in whole-month increments

Cancellation Policy:
1. When reason for the extension no longer exists, & Amn has not already entered into the extension

High Year of Tenure:
1. Amn must be within 2 years before they can extend

Valid Requests:

  1. Service-directed retainability reason
  2. Extension is in the best interest of the AF

Selective Retention Bonus (SRB)

A

Definition:
Monetary incentive paid to Amn serving in certain selected critical military skills who reenlist for additional obligated service

Purpose:
Encourage the reenlistment of sufficient numbers of qualified enlisted personnel in military skills with either demonstrated retention shortfalls or high training costs

Payment:
1. Maximum amount $100,000

Calculation Factors:

  1. Base pay on DOS
  2. Number of years reenlisting/extending
  3. SRB multiple IAW SRB Listing

Policies:
1. Minimum extension to receive SRB is 3 years

Career Job Reservation (CJR) Program

A

Definition:

  1. For unconstrained AFSCs
  2. Required for first-term Amn to reenlist

Purpose:

  1. Manage first-term Amn reenlistments by AFSC
  2. Prevent surpluses and shortages by AFSC

CONUS First-Term Amn Window:

  1. 35-43 months for 4 year contract
  2. 59-67 months for 6 year contract

OCONUS First-Term Amn Window:
1. 9-15 months prior to eligible overseas return date

Policies:

  1. CJR expires on Amn’s DOS
  2. Must reenlist by CJR expiration date to keep CJR

Requirements:

  1. Must meet minimum expectations on EPR
  2. No UIF
  3. No lost time
  4. No record of active nonjudicial punishment

Approval Authority:
1. Group CC (or equivalent)

Retraining Program

A

Definition:
1. Force management tool

Purpose:

  1. Balance career fields across all AFSCs
  2. Ensure sustainability of career fields
  3. Return disqualified Amn to productive status
  4. Move Amn from overage AFSCs into shortage specialties
  5. Provide opportunity to pursue other AF career paths

Policies:
1. AFPC selects Amn on last duty day of each month

Program Types:

  1. First-Term Amn
  2. NCO

Program Phases:

  1. Phase 1 - Obtain volunteers from overage AFSCs
  2. Phase 2 - Amn selected for mandatory retraining based on AF needs

  1. Intent submission - 3 days
  2. Appeal submission - 10 days (past intent)

Policies:

  1. Minimum 12 years of service on DOS to reenlist for an unspecified period
  2. May reenlist up to High Year of Tenure

Consideration:

  1. Within 13 months from DOS for second-term/career Amn
  2. Within 15 months from DOS for First-Term Amn
