7b. Superposition Flashcards
What is superposition?
The ability to find the current or voltage flow at a point in a circuit by seperating current or voltage sources and adding each seperate formulas to find the overal current or voltage at each point.
How do we do superposition?
- We start by picking one source and setting the others to zero (voltage sources -> short circuits, current sources -> open circuits).
- We then work out each equation for voltage or currents around the circuit.
- Pick another source
- Continue through all sources then add up the individual calculations to work out the total which is the sum of each voltage or current source.
Work out this question!
Answer:
* 1/6 V1 + 5/6 V2
Explaination:
* Setting V2 to zero with a short-circuit, notice that R2 is parallel with the 2k ohm resistor near Vout, so we can use the potential divider formula to find Vin for V1.
* Setting V1 to zero with a short-cicuit, notice that R1 is parallel with the 2k ohm resistor near Vout, so we can use the potential divider formula to find Vin for V2.
* We then add the two individiual voltages together to find the final answer
