5a. Inductors Flashcards
1
Q
What is an inductor?
A
It is an energy storage device (stores energy in the form of a magnetic field). It resists changes in the current, as a magnetic field is generated through the inductor as a result of the current.
2
Q
What is the equation for voltage in an inductor?
A
V = L * di/dt
- This means the rate of change of current flow is proportional to the applied voltage.
3
Q
What is meant by steady state?
A
When current levels out, so di/dt = 0, thus VL = 0.
