What is a genome?
A complete set of an organism’s genes
What is therapeutic engineering
The use of genetic engineering to correct defective genes responsible for certain diseases
What is selective breeding?
When a breeder chooses organisms with desirable traits and breeds them, to try and get those same traits in the offspring
Genetic engineering of bacteria has been used to produce what for people with diabetes?
Insulin
Why is genetic engineering used in growing food and crops?
To produce tastier, more nutritious and more appealing foods
What is cross breeding?
When you breed two different types of the same organisms that each have their own positive traits in the hopes that the offspring will keep both positive traits from each parent and not the negative traits
What are some problems related to genetic engineering?
1) a disease causing organism could be created by accident when a scientist is working with a virus that could destroy many living things
2) genetically engineered plant may grow so well it could become a weed problem
3) genetically modified food could become health risks to people or animals who eat them
What does the Bible say about genetic engineering?
1) humans are different from all other organisms because we have a soul and spiritual nature
2) God has given us ability to get knowledge and wisdom and we should use it wisely and make wise decisions for His glory
Why has genetic engineering been used in animals?
To help find cures for diseases
What is inbreeding
Breeding organisms from the same family or close relatives to keep the good or positive traits that they have.
Can genetic engineering cure all ams problems in the world?
No! It can’t change the curse put on man because of the great fall. It can’t get rid of mans sinful nature. Only through Jesus Christ and His salvation can man be saved from sin and the curse
What is the Human Genome project?
A scientific effort to map all human genes
Does inbreeding attempt to preserve or keep the special characteristics of a breed?
Yes
