Westland affair
-heseltine wanted to use europe to rescue westland helicopters
-thatcher wanted to use america to save it

1983 election
-tories won 397 seats, labour 203
-liberal sdp alliance 1/2 million less votes 186 less seats showed issues with first past the post
1987 election
-tories won 375 seats, labour 229
-liberal sdp alliance struggled as labour became more electable again
-officially formed liberal democrats in 1988
Hunger strikes
-hunger strikes 1980 led by bobby sands
-nominated to stand in as anti-h-block candidate in fermanagh while still on hunger strike, won the seat
-sands died weeks later and 9 more before oct 1981
