7.2 Measuring Equipment Flashcards
Who must the tool be calibrated by?
An approved person or organisation
What is important to check on the tool before it’s used?
That it will zero correctly
What does the tool need if it does not zero correctly?
Recalibrating
What can happen without calibration?
General wear and tear can have detrimental effect on the tool’s internal workings, potentially leading to incorrect readings
What is an efficient and reliable way of ensuring torque wrenched are correctly adjusted?
By using a torque analyser
What is a torque analyser used for?
Calibrating all types of torque wrenched, torque limiting screw driver and power tools
What standard must torque tools be up to?
- Torque tool standards ISO 6789, BS 6703 and ANSI/ASME B 107.14M
- Must also conform to current EC Directives and safety standards
What is the analyser itself?
A calibrated instrument
How do you know wha unit of torque needs to be used?
It will be in the operators requirements
Who carries out calibration of torque wrenched and other measuring equipment?
Approved organisations employing certified personnel
How are pressure gauges and transmitters calibrated?
Either by hydraulic pumps which use either water or oil or by pressure generators that use oil or gas
How do you recalibrate a micrometer?
Insert a precision block between the anvil and spindle, then carefully calibrate by rotating the sleeve with a special wrench until its longitudinal line aligns precisely with the zero mark on the thimble
