7.2 Calibration standards Flashcards
What is the requirement for Precision tools and equipment?
They must be regularly inspected and calibrated to the prescribed acceptable standards
What should the label on a precision tool show?
- Date of last test
- When next inspection + calibration is due
- The authorised person’s signature or stamp
What should a register contain?
All precision tooling and equipment with a record of the calibrations and standards used
What is in an inventory control register?
Tools that require periodic calibration
Where can periodic calibration be done?
In house in a controlled testing environment, or sent out to an independent company
What happens if the tool is not within its calibration dates?
It is deemed not suitable for use in aircraft maintenance
What should the interval of the inspections and calibrations be?
In accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions except where the organisation can show by results that a different time period is appropriate
What is annual calibration common on?
Tools that hold calibration well
When are sensitive instruments calibrated?
Before each use but also require periodic calibration
What must be kept for all tools requiring calibration?
A written record
What does the written record for calibrated tools contain?
- Last calibration
- Next due calibration
- Calibration requirements
What does the sticker on the tool contain?
Due date on next calibration
What should always be checked before use?
Calibration due date, tool should not be used if it is out of calibration
What should calibration records contain?
- Identification of equipment
- Manufacturers Standard used for calibration
- The obtained results
- Uncertainty of measurement
- Assigned calibration interval
- Limits of permissible error
- The authority under which the release document was issued
- Any limitation in the use of the equipment
- The date on which each calibration was conducted
Only when can unserviceable equipment return to service?
When the reason for the unserviceability has been eliminated, and its calibration date has been revalidated
What is checked when reviewing calibration results?
Check that tooling remains within acceptable AMM or CMM limits
