7.2 CNS Cortical Flashcards
Cortical function is
Anything you’re consciously aware of, can process, senses
Cerebrum (cerebral cortex) responsible for
Conscious mind, Reasoning, memory, decisions
Big division between two hemispheres of brain
Longitudinal Fissure
Dips and folds of brain
Gyri (rise) and Sulci (dip)
Increase surface area 3x
Association areas do what
Give our brain the power to compute and process (white matter wiring)
Central sulcus separates
The brain into anterior frontal (motor processing) and posterior parietal (sensory) portions
Name the lobes front to back
Frontal
Parietal
Temporal (side)
Occipital
Cerebellum
Cerebellum is involved with
Movement, coordination
Frontal lobe functions
Motor control and association
Parietal lobe functions
Somatosensory association (touch, pressure, temp)
Occipital Lobe
Vision and association
Temporal lobe functions
Hearing, olfactory (smell)
Wernicke’s area (more posterior) and Broca’s area (more frontal)
Both Responsible for speech
CVA or strokes can result from
- bleeding to ICP
- lack blood from clot
- TIA is temporary
