7.2 B pt2 Flashcards
Somatic nervous system
effect the skeletal muscles, voluntary movement. (Under PNS)
Autonomic nervous system
effect smooth muscles, involuntary movement including peristalsis (digestion), and breathing. (Under PNS)
Sympathetic nervous system
-Fight or flight (under Autonomic nervous system)
-The sympathetic nervous system prepares the body to flee or fight when faced with a dangerous situation. This may include:
Dilation of pupils to clear vision
Dilation of bronchioles increasing oxygen intake
Heart rate increases, bringing more glucose and oxygen to skeletal muscle cells – faster and stronger muscle action
Digestion is slowed to conserve energy
parasympathetic nervous system
-rest and digest (under Autonomic nervous system)
-Constrict pupils
Constrict bronchioles
Heart rate decreases, bringing less glucose and oxygen to skeletal muscle cells – lesser muscle action
Stimulates digestion
