11.2 pt2 Flashcards
Chunking (type of memorizing technique)
grouping information together to improve short-term memory.
contextual clues (memorizing technique)
memory is better in the context/ environment it was learnt in
E.g. sitting your exam in the same room/seat where you first learned the information
Rehearsal (memorizing technique)
Maintenance rehearsal – repeating information verbally/mentally
Elaborate rehearsal – linking information through stories, mind-maps or pictures (more effective in learning)
Classical conditioning (type of learning)
Classical conditioning is the process where an unrelated stimulus is taught to bring about a response.
e.g Bell = neutral stimulus. Dog no response.
Food naturally causes dog to salivate – unconditioned stimuli and response
Neutral stimulus (bell) and unconditioned stimulus (food) presented together
Now, bell causes dog to salivate – conditioned stimuli and response
Operant conditioning
Operant conditioning is a process where:
Good behaviors are rewarded
Bad behaviors are punished
This promotes desired behaviors and reduces unwanted behaviors
Observational Learning
Observational learning suggests that people copy behaviors displayed by others, particularly children emulating the behavior of adults
