A system consisting of all of the interactions that occur between the abiotic and biotic factors within an environment
Ecosystem
One of the world’s major communities, classified according to the predominant vegetation and characterized by adaptation of organisms to that particular environment.
Biome
A place where an organism naturally lives and grows.
Habitat
A very small, specialized habitat, such as the space under a rock.
Microhabitat
A group of organisms of the same species located within the same geographical location.
Population
The number of different species of plants and animals in an area.
Biodiversity
A change in types of species present in a community over time, such as after a disturbance.
Succession (Ecological Succession)
A relatively stable state of succession, or the end of the product of succession.
Climax Community
Capable of maintaining the current community at a steady level without exhausting natural resources or causing severe ecological damage.
