What is an action verb? Provide an example.
a verb that expresses action
Examples: run, walk, sit, stand, look, see, think, plan, feel
Notice that the action does not always have to be observable, but can be internal, such as thinking or feeling.

helping verb
Sometimes a very is made up of more than one word; additional words helping are called helping verbs

past tense
past - something that has already taken place.
Examples:walked, sat, ate
future tense
future - something that has not happened yet; it will happen
present tense
present - something that is happening now
Examples: walk, sit, eat
verb of being
It helps tell something about the subject.
Examples: is, are, am, was, were, become, seem
- It is too cold today.
- Yesterday was gorgeous.
- The roads became very slick in the rain.
auxiliary verb
another name for helping verbs - additional words that in a verb phrase outside of the main verb
Examples: BE, AM, IS, ARE, WAS, WERE, BEEN, HAS, HAVE, HAD, DOES, DO, DID,
CAN, COULD, SHALL, SHOULD, WILL, WOULD,
MIGHT, AND MAY
past particle
Something that happened in the past.
Examples:(have) walked, (have) sat, (have) eaten
irregular verbs
verbs that do not follow rules when changing tenses.
Typically, in order to create the _____ and _____ __________ tenses, you simply add d or ed to the end of the verb.

How can we check to see if a verb is a linking verb or a helping verb?
If its a linking verb you can substitute ‘is’ or ‘are’ and the sentence will still make sense. If the verb is used as a helping verb it will be part of a phrase that includes an action verb.-0
