7. Equipment Degradation Flashcards
Name some in flight emergencies? (9)
Engine Failure
Hydraulic System Failure
Electrical System Failure
Environmental System failure
In-Flight Fire
Smoke/Fire of Unknown Origin
Oil/Fuel System Failure
Fuel Leaks
Pitot Emergency Static Air Source
What sort of thing are there to consider for tyre failure?
Abort takeoff
Directional control is key
Runway inspection
Airframe damage – concorde
Safe to move? – Blocked runway?
Offload Pax/cargo
ATCO actions for engine failure
- Inform of nearest suitable airfield. Controllers should consider offering an initial vector.
- Consider imposing RTF silence for other aircraft.
- Orbiting above an airfield will assist the pilot to plan a glide approach.
- Accurate range and track distances can aid descent planning.
- Flight crew workload will be high (restart)
- A steeper than normal approach path can be expected.
- When giving turns the rate of descent may double.
What instruments are affected by a static air source problem?
ASI – airspeed indicator
VSI – vertical speed indicator
Altimeter
ATCO actions for Aborting take off
- Runway inspection
- Aircraft inspection
- Runway excursion and damage assess
ATCO actions for engine failure during takeoff?
- Other problems? RFFS required?
- Runway inspection etc..
ATCO actions for Engine failure after takeoff
- RFFS required? Emergency declared?
- Other traffic.
- Coordinate turn back if required.
