Clinical Viewer is a secure web-based portal that provides real-time access to Digital health records of:
- lab results
- diagnostic imaging
- dispensed medications (DHDR - no sig, only meds covered by govt)
- hospital visits
- LHIN - home and community visit
- mental health care information
- covid vaccines (linked through DHDR)
In Ontario it is called ‘connecting ontario’. Mostly available in hospitals currently.
What does the DHDR show?
list of medications that have been billed through the government. shows date, name, drug, strength, dosage form, quantity, and estimated days supply of drugs. Also shows any publicly funded pharmacy services that have been delivered (meds check, vaccine administration, naloxone kits). Does NOT show sig or other drugs that may have been billed through private plans or paid for by cash.
What is OLIS?
Ontario laboratories information system. gives healthcare providers access to lab test orders and results from hospitals, community labs and public health labs (not privately funded labs).
COVID test result can be viewed and stored in OLIS.
What is the difference between Telehealth and telemedicine?
Telehealth is a confidential phone service that is usually run by an RN, and does NOT provide diagnosis or treatment; the RN provides recommendation of how the patient may handle the problem themselves, or informs then when to visit the emergency room, walk-in clinic etc. It is 24/7.
Telehealth is the delivery of health care services when the clinician and the patient are not in the same location. (I think Telehealth is broad and telemedicine is a sub-section of it?)
Telemedicine is the specific delivery of a diagnosis and treatments through various communication technology. Ontario telemedicine network (OTN) is part of ontario health and it provides more in-depth services that can link different groups together virtually to have better access to virtual care (i.e. FHT). It can be team-managed or self-managed.
What were the top 3 types of OTN video visits in 2019?
mental health & addiction, bariatrics, respirology
What is Telehomecare?
Empowers patient to take control of their own health and better their quality of life. The patients work with a nurse to set goals, specifically for COPD and heart failure they have programs. The patient will get equipment to monitor they BP, oxygen, and weight. The pt can connect with the nurse on their progress and their goals. This is beneficial bc there is less travel time to appointments, less emergency room visits, and the patient can learn to watch for signs of their condition worsening.
