666) ST Linear Models Part 0 Flashcards
What is Linear Regression?
Linear regression attempts to model the relationship between two variables by fitting a linear equation to observed data. One variable is considered to be an explanatory variable, and the other is considered to be a dependent variable.
Also called Line of the best fit.
y=alpa+beta(x)
beta affects diretction of slope
alpha moves slope up and down
Express observations on y as a linear function of obseravtions on x.
What is dependent variable?
Dependent Variable – Variable who’s values we want to explain or forecast Independent or explanatory Variable that Explains the other variable. Values are independent.
Examples where it could be used?
Correlation between experience and salary?
Or how many consumed drinks can affect sigarets packed smoked?
How many sleep hours would make and influence on overall grade of a student?
