What is the definition of persuasion?
method of attitude and behavior change
What is the elaboration likelihood model?
model that explains whether the content of an argument or some more superficial attribute is more likely to cause persuasion
What are the three key elements to persuasion?

What is the central route of persuasion?
people are persuaded by the content of the argument
What is the peripheral route of persuasion?
when people focus on superficial or secondary characteristics of the speech or orator
What is social cognitive theory?
theory of behavior change that emphasizes the interactions between people and their environment
What is cognition?
how we process our environment
What is reciprocal determinism?
interaction between a persons behavior, personal factors and environment
What are the three different ways that individuals and the environment interact?
- people choose their environments which in turn shapes them
- personality shapes how people interpret and respond to their environment
- a person’s personality influences that situation to which she then reacts
What is behavioral genetics?
study of the role of inheritance in interacting with experience to determine an individuals personality and behavior
What is the common definition of intelligence?
ability to learn from experience, problem-solve, and use knowledge to adapt to new situations
What is fluid intelligence?
ability to think on your feet and solve novel problems
What is crystallized intelligence?
ability to recall and apply already learned information
What is intellectual disability?
classification of an individual with an IQ score below 70 and function impairment in everyday life
What is the life course perspective?
looks at how key events in a person’s life unfold overtime and lead to a person’s development
