What is needed for a TST
Tuberculin, Purified protien derivitive (PPD)
Tween 80 stablized intermediate strength PPD
Tubersol is preffered
Aplisol-alternate product
1ml syringe with 1/4-1/2in needle
When will you use the Quantiferon gold test?
all instances you would use TST
You should use it in place of a TST not in addition too.
What is Mycobacterium TB
Bacteria that causes latent TB and active TB
Active TB disease?
an illness which TB bacteria are multiplying and attacking parts of the body normally the lungs
Latent TB infection
TB bacteria are alive but inactive in the body
Pt don’t feel sick, don’t show sxs and usually have a positive TB tested cant spread to other people
Define BCG
Vaccine named after French scientist who developed it Calmette and Guerin
rarely used in the US but often given to kids an infants in other countries

AD-PHA and NAVMED 6224/8 CIVMAR- During periodic physical those at risk for TB or when direct by CO contact or outbreak investigation Clinically indicated recommended by the NEPMU
