6.1.4 Gene Control: Transcription Factors Flashcards
1
Q
What are transcription factors
A
Proteins that bind to specific regions of DNA to control the transcription of genes (like repressor proteins)
‘Can switch on and switch off genes’
2
Q
How do transcription factors work?
A
- Bind to promoter region of a gene
- Allows or prevents transcription of gene (increases or decreases RATE too)
‘Can switch on and switch off genes’
