6.10 absorption of products of digestion Flashcards
describe the 3 steps of co-transport of amino acids & glucose.
1- Na+ ions transported from epithelial cell to blood through active transport -> low Na+ concentration in epithelial cell
2- Na+ ions diffuse in through co-transport protein & brings glucose & amino acids into epithelial cells
3- glucose & amino acids passes into the blood plasma by facilitated diffusion
how are micelles formed?
emulsification through bile salts (which is produced in the liver)
what’s the advantage of splitting triglycerides into micelles?
increases SA -> quicker speed of action
describe the process of absorption of triglycerides.
1- lipids hydrolysed by lipases
2- split into micelles
3- micelles break down in contact with epithelial cells
4- monoglycerides & fatty acids transported to the ER
5- triglycerides are modified & forms chylomicrons
6 chylomicrons move out to lacteals through exocytosis
where are monoglycerides & fatty acids recombined?
ER
what are triglycerides modified & associated with?
cholesterol & lipoproteins -> forms chylomicrons
