abdominal aorta

men smokers older people family history HTN hypercholesterolaemia
What is the effect of diabetes on AAA?
reduced chances

How might a AAA present?
sudden back pain
What problem is associated with aneurysm location?
if you have to clamp off the blood supply to the kindey, you basically have about 40 minutes before it’s dead

What are the 2 types of AAA grafts?
trouser graft
straight graft
What are the immediate complications associated with AAA repair?
haemorrhage
- death
- ischaemia
What are the early complications associated with AAA repair?
cardiac / respiratory / renal failure
wound infection
dehiscence
What are the late complications associated with AAA repair?
incisional hernia
adhesive small bowel obstruction
graft infection
aorto-enteric fistula
how are trousers formed in endovascular repair?
catheter with stent graft put up one leg (usually right)
another bit attatched with catheter on the other side
Why do we tend to perform endovascular repair on the right?
because most people are right handed

open repair
How can you help things stick in endovascular repair?
use a catheter with a little screw on it
