5A Radar and ATC ? Flashcards
Primary Radar
Ground based system used by ATC which transmits radio waves in a narrow beam by a rotating antenna.
Radar
(Radio Detection and Ranging)
System which uses a synchronized radio transmitter and receiver to emit radio waves and process their reflections for display.
Range
(Distance from the antenna)
Determined by measuring the time it takes for the radio waves to reach your aircraft and then return to the receiving antenna.
Azimuth
Angle of an aircraft from the radar site; measured clockwise from north
Air Traffic Control Radar Beacon System (ATCRBS)
or
