5A:Cells to Systems Flashcards
cellular organisation
What are the four levels of cellular organisation in
living things?
specialised cells - have specific function and structural adaptations to carry out role
tissues - groups of similar cells working together to carry out particular function
organs - two or more tissues that work together to perform specialised task
systems - group of organs that work together to perform vital task
give examples for each level of organisation for PLANTS.
specialised cells - root hairs, guard cells
tissues - root tissue
organs - leaf, roots
systems - shoot and root systems
What is the difference between a vascular and
non-vascular plant? Give examples of each.
VASCULAR - contain vascular tissue that transport water, minerals and sugars throughout plant eg trees
NON-VASCULAR - do not contain vascular tissue and only requires simple tissues to function eg moss
Name the two systems found in vascular plants. What is each system’s function?
ROOT -
- Underground
- Absorbs water and nutrients from soil
- Provides support & structure
SHOOT -
- Reproductive parts : flowers & fruit
- Non-reproductive parts: leaves & stems
