Threadworms live no longer than how many weeks?
6 weeks
Threadworm 1st line treatment? Dose, S/E, Avoid?
Mebendazole
Dose - 100mg 1 dose and 2nd dose 2 weeks later if reinfection
S/E - GI discomfort
Avoid - pregnancy
Ascaricides (Roundworm) treatment
1st line - Mebendazole
Alternative - Levamisole [unlicensed]
Schistosomicides treatment?
Praziquantel
Cutaneous larva migrants [dog and cat hookworm] treatment
Single tracks - topical thiabendazole
Multiple tracks - Levermectin OR Albendazole OR Thiabendazole
Filanicides treatment, age and dose?
Diethylcarbamazine
1 month and older
Day 1 = 1mg/kg, increasing 6mg/kg (divided dose) over 3 days
What should be given for onchocerciasis infections (River blindness)?
Ivermectin
Hookworms [live upper small intestine and draw blood] treatment
Mebendazole or Albendazole or Levamisole [in children]
What condition can Hookworms cause
Iron defiency anaemia
Tapeworm - Taenicides treatment? 1st line and alternative.
1st line = Niclosamide + laxative 2 hours after
Alternative = Praziquantel
Tapeworm - Hydatid disease treatment?
Surgical treatment with albendazole to stop reinfection
