5.3.1 Human endocrine system Flashcards
1
Q
The endocrine system
A
- made up of glands which secrete hormones directly into the bloodstream
- blood carries the hormone to a target organ where it produces an effect
2
Q
3 ways that the coordination by the endocrine system is different from the coordination by the nervous system
A
- slower
- longer-lasting
- (chemical / hormone) via blood instead of electrical impulses / neurones
3
Q
Pituitary gland
A
- found in the brain
- a ‘master gland’
- secretes several hormones into the blood in response to the body conditions
- these hormones in turn act on other glands to stimulate other hormones to be released to bring about effects
