Q

What happens if the body temperature is too high?

A
  • blood vessels dilate (vasodilation) - more blood flows through the skin’s capillaries
  • sweat is produced from sweat gland
  • both these mechanisms cause a transfer of energy from the skin to the environment

Q

What happens if the body temperature is too low?

A
  • blood vessels constrict (vasoconstriction) - less blood flows through the skin’s capillaries
  • sweating stops
  • skeletal muscles contract (shiver) - requires energy so more respiration + some energy is transferred - warming the blood
