5.3 Energy Transfer During Short Duration/high Intensity Exercise Flashcards
1
Q
Outline the uses and stores of the lactic acid system
A
- short term energy system, used for high intensity + over longer period of time (60-90s)
- anaerobic process - does not require oxygen to produce energy
- uses carbs from food and converts to glucose
- excess stored in the liver + muscles as glycogen - easily accessible for energy use
2
Q
Advantages of the lactic acid system
A
- high intensity
- no delayed o2 delivery
- lasts longer than the PC system
3
Q
Disadvantages of the lactic acid system
A
- short duration (3 mins)
- by-products is Lactic acid
- energy yield is 1: 2
