5.2.2 enthalpy and entropy Flashcards
1
Q
define entropy
A
a measure of the dispersal of energy in a system, which is greater the more disordered the system
2
Q
what causes entropy changes
A
changes in state:
solid/ppt has less disorder/ more order/
fewer ways of arranging energy/ less freedom/ less
random particles/dispersal of energy
so order of increasing entropy is solid–>liquid–>gas
changes in the number of gaseous molecules:
less gaseous = less entropy, fewer microstates/arrangements of energy
3
Q
what is the point of feasibility
A
when ΔG is 0 - on the verge on being feasible/unfeasible
