5.1.2 how far Flashcards
heterogeneous vs homogeneous equilibria
het:
(Species have) different states/phases
hom:
(Species have) same states/phases
calculating Kc
the ratio of the equilibrium concentrations of products over the equilibrium concentrations of reactants each raised to the power of their stoichiometric coefficients
in heterogeneous eq with solids, don’t count the solid as not a concentration in eq mixture.
calculating Kp
same as Kc, but instead of concentration, use partial pressure
therefore only consider gasses for heterogeneous eq
define mole fraction
the proportion a molecule accounts for the total moles present
calculated by moles of substance/ total moles
define partial pressure
within a gaseous system each gas has a partial pressure, a fraction of the total pressure- found by mole fraction * total pressure.
increasing/decreasing temp on exo/endothermic equilibria
changes the concentrations of reactants so Kc/Kp changes
