The cold air from Canada comes down to the warm air from the Gulf of Mexico which goes north to the cold air.

How do warm air and cool air make a funnel?
Sometimes lol air is trapped above warm air and wants to sink. Warm air wants to rise making the spin together making a funnel out of the clouds.
What part of states in the USA are likely to have a tornado
Southeastern states.
