A person with a physical and mental impairment that limits a major life function

Because this is a civil rights law, no additional funding is provided
Idea funding must not be used for 504 students

Accommodation plan commonly known as a 504 plan
Does not have as many rules as IDEA

Assessment requirements to determine eligibility
The documents that are needed are medical diagnosis, school records, observations, interviews with the student

The 5014 is separate from MDT and IEP team

Free inappropriate education
All students with disabilities have equal access to education.
Progress is not required
Students may receive accommodations
Life changes to their environment, for example, small classroom modifications or amplification system or more frequent checks by teacher

Due process
Parents have the right to be informed of their child being evaluated or identified as needing support
They have a right to receive records and can complain about the process to the civil rights office
