5.000 COMMUNICATIONS Flashcards
- What would cause the SEL indicator to illuminate an RMP?
The SEL indicator comes on amber when a transceiver normally associated with one RMP is tuned by another.
- How do you tune and transmit on the communication radios?
Any of the Radio Management Panels (RMPs) can be used to tune each transceiver. To transmit, the Flight Crew uses the Audio Control Panel (ACP) to select a VHF or HF system. The ACP works through the Audio Management Unit (AMU). Each system is connected to the Radio Management Panels (RMPs) for frequency selection, and to the AMU for connection to the audio integrating and SELCAL (selective calling) systems.
- Which RMP is powered in the Emergency Electrical Configuration?
Only RMP1 functions in EMER ELEC CONFIG.
- Which communication radio is powered in the Emergency Electrical Configuration?
Only VHF1 functions in EMER ELEC CONFIG.
- What methods could the crew utilize to make a PA announcement?
The passenger address system allows crewmembers to make announcements to passengers in the cabin through loudspeakers. It can be operated from the Flight Deck (with ACP or handset) or from the Flight Attendant stations.
- What does the illumination of the CALL light on the VHF transmission keys indicate?
The indication flashes amber (and buzzer sounds) when the SELCAL system detects a call.
- What happens if you press the EVAC COMMAND button?
When ON, the EVAC light flashes red. The EVAC lights at the FWD and AFT attendant panels also flash and the evacuation tone sounds.
- When is the CVR energized automatically?
The CVR is energized automatically under the following conditions:
• on the ground during the first 5 minutes after the aircraft electrical network is energized
• on the ground with one engine running
• in flight
- How do you record the Flight Attendants PAs?
• announcements transmitted over the passenger address system, if PA reception is selected on at least one audio control panel
- How do you call a mechanic stationed on the outside of the aircraft?
When pressed (and held), the COCKPIT CALL indication lights up blue on the external power panel in the nose L/G bay and an external horn sounds. When released, the COCKPIT CALL remains lighted. The Ground Mechanic can extinguish it by pressing the RESET button on the external power panel. The external horn stops sounding.
- What happens when you press the EMER pushbutton on the CALLS panel in the flight deck?
The following aural and visual alerts will trigger in the cabin:
• Two red lights flash on all area call panels
• The “EMERGENCY CALL” message appears on all AIPs
• A high-low chime sounds three times on all of the loudspeakers
Also, the ON light and the amber CALL light come on the Flight Deck CALLS panel.
- What happens o when a Flight Attendant initiates an emergency call?
The following aural and visual alerts will trigger in the Flight Deck:
• On the EMER pb: The ON light flashes in white and the CALL light flashes in amber
• The ATT lights will flash on all ACPs
• Three buzzers (inhibited during takeoff and landing) will sound consecutively
In the cabin, the “EMERGENCY CALL” message will appear on all AIPs or on the AIP of the originating station, based on its customization.
- What is the AUDIO SWITCHING PANEL used for?
The AUDIO SWITCHING selector allows the crew to switch to the third ACP if ACP1 or ACP2 fails.
