5. the structure of the genome Flashcards
1
Q
what is a genome
A
the genome of an organism is its entire hereditary information encoded in DNA
it is made up of:
-genes (DNA sequences that code for protein)
-other DNA sequences that do not code for proteins
most of the eukaryotic genome consists of non-coding sequences
2
Q
sequences that do not code for protein can either:
A
-regulate transcription
-be transcribed but never translated (tRNA and rRNA)
