Where the conductor from the meter base is connected to individual circuit breakers, which are connected to separate circuits for distribution to various locations throughout the structure. Also known as a panel.
Kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and outdoor circuits are required to be protected by what?
A GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interupter)
What is a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interupter)
This trips a circuit breaker when there is any imbalance in the circuit breaker. The standard breaker conditoin is 0.0005-amp fault in 1/40 second.

They must be waterproof and GFCI
Duplex convenience outlets should be a minimum of how far apart?
12”
Duplex outlets should be no more than ___ from an opening?
6’
True or False. Each wall over 2’ in length should have an outlet.
True
Name three places that should have outlets?
Behind desks, in hallways, and near fireplaces.
How should duplex outlets be placed in kitchens?
Close together and installed where fixed and portable appliances are located for use.
Outlets are required every ___ of counter space.
4’ no more than 2’ from a corner, end of counter, or appliance.
True or False. Not every bathroom sink or makeup table needs a duplex outlet.
False. They all need one.
Each enclosed bath or laundry/utility room should have what?
An exhaust fan. Rooms with operable windows do not require fans, although fans are desirable despite this.
What areas require light in a bathroom?
Over the sink, a recessed waterproof light in the shower, and any other area that may need light like a bathtub.
Don’t forget to put lights in what two types of rooms?
Closets/Pantries, and stairways.
What should exterior lights illuminate?
Patios, walkways, driveways, decks, and other high use areas.
Computerized programming allows you to do what with your house?
It allows you to use a computer to set and monitor a variety of electrical circuits throughout your home, including security, sound, yard watering, cooking, heating/cooling, ventilating, and lighting. These automation systems are usually installed in the kitchen or in an office.
What did plumbing pipes used to be made out of and what are being ised now primarily.
They used to be copper and now they’re plastic (polybutylene).
What kind of pipe is used effectively in cold for cold water installations.
PVC pipe
Metal piping loses what?
Heat
What is CPVC and why is it better than copper pipes?
Corrosion resistant plastic piping retains water purity under extreme circumstances, it also lasts longer than copper.
What is steel pipe used for?
Used for large-distribution water piping.
What makes galvanized pipe?
Steel that is cleaned and dipped in a bath of molten zinc.
What main two types of pipe are used for natural gas?
Galvanized steel pipe coated black with varnish and corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST).
True or False. Plumbing plans are generally required for residential plans.
False. Check with your local building codes.
What happens in a “Rough in” during plumbing?
Installation of the plumbing system before the fixtures.
What is the run?
A portion of pipe or fitting connection that continues in a straight line in the direction of flow in which it is connected.
What is a soil pipe?
A pipe that carries the discharge of water closets or other similar fixtures.
What is a “soil stack”?
A vertical pipe that extends one or more floors and carries discharge of water closets and other similar fixtures.
What is a “stack?”
A general term referring to any vertical pipe for soil waste or vent piping.
What is a trap?
A U-shaped pipe below plumbing fixtures that holds water to prevent odor and sewer gas from entering the fixture.
The size of water supply piping is based on what 5 conditions?
- Amount of water needed
- Supply pressure
- Pipe length
- Number of stories to be supplied
- Flow pressure needed at the farthest point from the source.
What is a cleanout?
A fitting with a removable plug that is placed in plumbing drainage pipe lines to allow access for cleaning out the pipe.
