5. Strange particles and Conservation of Properties Flashcards
What are strange particles?
Strange particles are particles that have a unique property known as strangeness, S.
How are strange particles created?
Strange particles are created via the strong interaction.
What is conservation of strangeness?
The conservation of strangeness means that strange particles can only be created in pairs, as the strangeness before the reaction must be equal to the strangeness after the reaction.
However strangeness is not conserved when interacting through the weak nuclear force, It can change by -1, 0 or +1 in this interaction.
What properties need to be conserved
Charge, Baryon Number, Lepton number, and strangeness in the case that the interaction carried out is not done through the Weak interaction.
