8
Q
3’-UTR
A
3’-untranslated region (of an RNA)
9
Q
ORF
A
open reading frame
10
Q
What are the different mRNA functions?
A
- transcription (making mRNA from DNA template)
- intron removal (splicing)
- microRNA regulation (regulation of translation and stability)
- non-microRNA regulated stability
11
Q
What is “silencing”
A
anything that prevents a protein being made from mRNA (impeding the ability of mRNA from making proteins)
12
Q
How does silencing occcur? (2 ways)
A
- prevent the mRNA from being translated into protein
- destroy the mRNA
