5 - Elanor Fogarty (cardiac syncope due to Heart Block) Flashcards
describe the heart sounds in a normal heart
In a healthy heart, there are usually two heart sounds.
S1: first heart sound -Closure of the mitral and tricuspid valves between the atria and ventricles.
S2: second heart sound -Closure of the aortic and pulmonary valves
describe waveform of the jugular vein and its relationship to the cardiac cycle
The right jugular vein directly ascends above the right atrium - gages RA pressure
describe the mechanism by which the heart generates a beat including cardiac excitation, conduction and contraction
action potentials are generated through spontaneous depolarisation in the SA node.
SA node > AV node> bundle of His > purkinje fibres
describe dif b/w full and partial AV block
A complete AV block (Mrs Fogarty’s situation) will result in failure to transmit any impulses from atria to ventricles. In contrast, a partial AV block will result in a slower or intermittent transmission.
