Making the boss listen to more people rather than one to have power

Process in which workers negotiate as a group with their employers
What is the Grainage?
Unions working together to buy products from the railroad in large amounts to reduce the price

His son tries to replace some workers with machines

They go on strike
But the son Frick hires Pinkerton’s to stop the strikers with force

and the workers have to return to work

Pullman a Chicago business man had a private town for workers
Cuts their pay so they can’t afford resources

What did the workers do in Pullman’s small town?
Asked for a raise and were fired
Workers then go on strike with the railroad and disrupt the mail
What does the government do once the mail is disrupted?
They send the army to stop the strike and then stops any strikes that occur over the next 30 years

Skilled and unskilled farmers, factory workers
Wanted equal pay,wanted to end child labor, wanted 8 hour work days
