What was Manifest Destiny trying to do?
Get people to move west but it was difficulties move and live there with little supplies
What is free Daws Act?
The act of Assimulation
Divided the reservations into 160 acres give to the male Native Americans
Each landowner became a U.S. Citizen making them required to follow federal,state,local laws
How did the Native Americans feel about the Daws Act?
The idea of owning land offended them
Indians didn’t know how to farm and the land was barely farmable
What did many of the Native Americans do with their land?
They sold 138 million acres to white men due to not understanding ownership
Indians lost their place to live in Oklahoma Territory
What is the Homestead Act?
Free land was available to any male over 21 years old or the head of the household of a family
As long as they lived in the west for 6 years and farmed there for 5 years
What did Samuel Morse invent?
Improved the telegraph and invented the Morse Code
It improved communication across the country with people and businesses
Increased westward migration
What is Manifest Destiny?
God intended for Americans to most west extending the country from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean
